BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND

Young troubadour Connor Selby signed to Provogue Records in December 2022 and has released his major label debut, the self titled Connor Selby to critical acclaim. One of the brightest talents on the UK blues scene. He has been voted “Young Artist of the Year” at the UK Blues Awards for the last three consecutive years (2020, 2021, 2022) and he already has an impressive venue checklist, including Wembley Stadium, where he opened for The Who in July 2019 and has since gone on to play Hyde Park, London, with Pearl Jam, Stereophonics and Johnny Marr in the summer of 2022. Connor has also had a productive 2023 touring the UK as the opening act for Blues and Rock Luminaries Robert Cray and Beth Hart. Connor is also due to embark on a headline tour in October of 2023.

There’s a timeless melancholic quality to his music. Relatable in its honesty and openness, he draws from anxiety and vulnerability but delivers it with a world-worn elegance. The sky is the limit for Selby, who, along with awards, has picked up numerous plays on BBC Radio 2. It’s easy to see why with his soulful blend of blues and his emotionally introspective songwriting, which sits alongside his impressive armoury of guitar playing.

 

Raised in an Essex village, he has already trodden a path less travelled. Spending part of his early years in Connecticut, USA, he moved back to his home county before relocating to Dubai, UAE, between the formative age of ten and fourteen, and then back to Essex. Those young eyes soaked up the travels and the changes that were passing him by. Too young to remember Connecticut, he has fond memories of Dubai, “It was quite a contrast to England. I remember going to an international school and meeting lots of different people from all over the world, who like me, had recently been thrusted into this new environment. There wasn’t the division that you might expect in a community comprised of people of so many different nationalities. We all bonded over the fact that we were in this new place, that none of us really felt we belonged to. Strangely, when I returned to England, I found people to be colder and I didn’t feel that same sense of camaraderie and community that I experienced in Dubai, despite being back in my home-town.”

One thing that kept with him was his burgeoning love of American roots music. “I got interested in not just the music itself but the history and everything around it,” he says. “I wanted to learn and listen as much as I could. The artists, their lives and their lineage. Tracing it back to see how it connects, like a tapestry. I think it’s important for someone who isn’t from that cultural background to treat it with the respect it deserves. You can’t separate the music from its historical context.”

“I love the directness, the simplicity and earthiness of it,” he adds. “I love really how down-to-earth; it is both lyrically and musically. I think with the blues, it’s fundamentally about very basic human emotions. Things like sorrow and pride and exploring the way we deal with everyday situations and problems. I’ve also always been attracted to the authoritative quality of the music. As a kid and teenager, I was quite shy and not very self-assured, so I think it was a place for me to find a sense of power.”

Over twenty years on, neither time age nor music has managed to tame one of the soul survivors of the Commitments. Mickah Wallace is brasher and louder than ever, and continuing to spread the gospel of soul to the undisputed masses.

​No one could ever have predicted the huge success of Alan Parker’s black comedy, THE COMMITMENTS, helping to launch the rebirth of true soul rhythm ‘n’ blues. 

Everyone can remember the charismatic character portrayed by Andrew Strong. However for 10 years since the film Dave Finnegan successfully fronted the touring band ‘The Stars From The Commitments’ and has appreciated accolades from around the globe, performing in countries like Brazil, USA, Canada, all over Europe, South Africa, Scandinavia, the Middle East, India, Japan, Malaysia, Australia, and New Zealand to over a million people. 

He has performed alongside such legendary artistes as James Brown, Wilson Pickett, Edwin Starr, BB King, Sam Moore, Steve ‘The Colonel’ Cropper, Dennis Edwards (The Temptations), Dan Ackroyd and many, many more. It was Sam Moore who questioned “How can a little white guy have a soul and a voice that’s so black!”

In the true spirit of the film Dave has meticulously formed his own band casting each member for their character and astounding musical abilities. Dave Finnegan’s Commitments undoubtedly continue where the film left off, still spreading the word of Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett and the other apostles of soul, and in doing so enabling us all to experience live, the essence of… sweet soul music.

WE ARE PROUD TO BE HOSTING IRISH POWER TRIO LED BY FORMER MAMA’S BOYS AND CELTUS GUITARIST/VIOLINIST, SINGER AND SONGWRITER PAT MCMANUS ON OCTOBER 6TH 2023!

GROWING UP IN A FAMILY STEEPED IN TRADITIONAL MUSIC, PAT’S FIRST INSTRUMENT AT THE AGE OF 4 YEARS WAS THE VIOLIN. BY THE AGE OF 7 HE WAS ALSO PLAYING THE ACOUSTIC GUITAR AND PERFORMING LIVE WITH THE FAMILY BAND. BY 14 YEARS HE WAS ‘ ALL IRELAND CHAMPION ‘ ON THE VIOLIN AND WAS OFFERED A PLACE AT THE ROYAL SCHOOL OF MUSIC, BUT BY 18 YEARS HE WAS SEDUCED BY ROCK N ROLL… AND SO HE PICKED UP THE ELECTRIC GUITAR. AFFECTIONATELY KNOW AS THE ‘PROFESSOR’, PAT HAS BEEN IN RECENT YEARS HAILED IN THE PRESS AS ONE OF THE TOP 5 IRISH GUITARISTS.

IN 1978 PAT AND HIS BROTHERS FORMED THE SHORT LIVED ‘PULSE’. BY 1979 THE BAND’S NAME WAS CHANGED TO ‘MAMA’S BOYS’ AND WITH PAT NOW ALSO THE SONGWRITER FOR THE BAND, THE RISE TO FAME WAS RAPID. WITH HIS TWO BROTHERS JOHN AND TOMMY, ‘MAMA’S BOY’S’ ENJOYED A 15 YEAR CAREER WITH WORLDWIDE SUCCESS AND TOURING ALONG SIDE MANY OF THE GREAT ROCK AND ROLL BANDS. THE UNTIMELY DEATH OF PAT’S YOUNGER BROTHER TOMMY, BROUGHT A CLOSE TO THE ‘MAMA’S BOYS’ DAYS… AND SO ‘CELTUS’ WAS BORN.’CELTUS’ WAS A MIX OF THE BROTHER’S TRADITIONAL PAST WITH ROCK AND THE BAND WERE VERY QUICKLY SIGNED TO SONY. UNDER THE GUIDANCE OF MUFF WINDWOOD AND PRODUCER RUPERT HIND THE BAND PRODUCED SEVERAL HIGHLY REGARDED AND AWARD-WINNING ALBUMS.

IN 2001 PAT MOVED FROM LONDON BACK TO HIS NATIVE FERMANGH. HE HAD FELT HE NEEDED A BREAK FROM MUSIC, BUT THAT LASTED ALL OF A FEW MONTHS AS SOON HE WAS PLAYING, RECORDING AND WORKING WITH A VARIETY OF BANDS AND MUSICIANS. IN 2007 PAT FINALLY FORMED HIS OWN SOLO BAND…’ THE PAT MCMANUS BAND ‘AND RELEASED HIS FIRST SOLO ALBUM. THE BAND HAVE TOURED AND TOURED FOR THE PAST 15 YEAR, PLAYING HUGE FESTIVALS, TOURS AND HEADLING SHOWS. WITHIN THIS TIME PAT HAS WRITTEN AND RELEASED 9 ALBUMS AND 3 DVD’S AND A NEW LIVE CD IS READY FOR RELEASE IN JULY 2023. THE PRESENT LINE UP OF THE PAT MCMANUS BAND INCLUDES LONG TIME MEMBER PAUL FALOON ON DRUMS AND PAT’S FORMER CO – PRODUCER AND TOP SESSION PLAYER PLUNKETT MCCOMB ON BASS.

The band today owes it’s origins to three of Marc Bolan’s valued musicians. Mickey Finn, Paul Fenton and Jack Green.

The story started in 1997 when they were invited to appear at a special memorial concert at the Cambridge Corn Exchange. This event was held in the same week as a presentation by The Performing Rights Society (PRS) at the site, in Barnes, London of Marc Bolan’s untimely death. Now a memorial garden.It was suggested to the guys that it would be a good idea to reform the T-Rex band. Paul invited Barry Newby an old friend and ex ‘Smokie’ tour manager to help recruit, manage and give financial support.The band played their first show with frontman Rob Benson for the Porsche company in March 1999 at the Matrin Schleyer Halle, Stuttgart. Dates in Japan followed and since then the band have promoted not just Marc Bolan’s great songs and sales of the back catalogue but thrilled thousand upon thousand of music fans throughout the UK, Europe and Far East. The band continued to perform extensively until Mickey Finn’s death in 2003. However it had always been Mickey’s wish that the band should continue and deeply touched by the publics overwhelming support the band have continued to do so.The band today with it’s expanded line-up reflects the mid 70’s period and features a female voice that helped make Marc Bolan and T-Rex become the iconic name that music fans remember.

Taking their audiences on a trip back to the 90’s indie era with the attitude and baggy fashion

to boot.

Described as an energetic and authentic experience The Madchester Experience show immerses you in visual & musical ecstasy taking you on a nostalgic journey back to the 90’s with the use of music, film and fashion.

THE MADCHESTER EXPERIENCE have performed many times alongside Clint Boon (Inspiral Carpets) and the Manchester legend Bez ( The Happy Mondays) both Manchester Legends in their own right.

They have also played shows with some of the cast from Shane Meadows Channel 4 drama (This is England) with Thomas Turgoose aka Shuan and Andrew Shim aka Milky.

They have shared the stage with other britpop Legends such as Nigel Clarke (Dodgy) and Tommy Scott from the band (Space)

The Madchester Experience have performed on stages with audience capacities spanning from 300 to 7000 people.

They have performed and headlined at many of the major tribute festivals in and around the UK and continue to do so.
